Controlling Playback: Scheduling & Dayparting

Modified on Tue, 10 Feb at 1:10 AM

You don't always want every piece of content to play 24/7. Whether it's a "Breakfast Menu" that should stop at 11:00 AM or a "Weekend Special" that only runs on Saturdays, Citadel’s Channel Scheduling gives you granular control.

To access these settings, navigate to your Channel, find the content item you want to schedule, and click the Settings Wheel icon.

The 4 Scheduling Types

You can layer these settings to create complex rules (e.g., "Play only on Monday mornings between Dec 1st and Dec 25th").

1. Frequency Scheduling

This controls how often the item appears within the loop.

  • Play regularly: The item plays every time the loop cycles (Standard behavior).

  • Play on specified interval: The item plays only once every X minutes or X loops. Use this to prevent repetitive ads from annoying viewers.

2. Weekday Scheduling

Perfect for recurring weekly events.

  • Example: Set your "Happy Hour" digital signage to play only on Thursday and Friday.

  • Action: Toggle the switch and select the specific days of the week active for this content.

3. Date Range Scheduling

Ideal for limited-time campaigns or holidays.

  • Example: A "Christmas Promotion" that starts on Dec 1st and automatically stops playing on Dec 26th.

  • Action: Select a Start Date and an End Date. Outside this window, the content will be skipped.

4. Time Scheduling (Dayparting)

Controls the specific hours of the day the content is visible.

  • Example: "Morning Announcements" that play from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

  • Action: Set a Start Time and End Time.

Pro Tip: Scheduling applies to the item within the Channel. If you remove the item from the Channel, the schedule is removed with it.
