The Citadel Hierarchy: Assets, Playlists, and Channels

Modified on Mon, 9 Feb at 10:45 PM

Understanding how content moves from your computer to your screen is the first step in mastering Citadel. Our system uses a simple three-step hierarchy to keep your network organized.

1. Files & Assets (The "Ingredients")

Think of Assets as your raw ingredients. These are the individual files you upload to the system.

  • Examples: Images, Videos, Web Apps, or PowerPoint files.

  • Where they live: In the Files/Assets library.

  • Note: Even "Apps" (like a Weather widget) are stored here as a single asset.

2. Playlists (The "Recipe")

A Playlist is a grouped collection of assets. It determines the order in which your ingredients should play.

  • Function: You can mix and match different assets (e.g., Video A + Image B + Weather App) into a single loop.

  • Management: You can drag and drop items to reorder them, ensuring your narrative flows exactly how you want it.

3. Channels (The "Menu")

A Channel is the final broadcast stream that gets assigned to your screen.

  • The Power Move: Channels are unique because they can contain both individual Assets and entire Playlists.

  • Why this matters: You can have a "Global Playlist" (managed by HQ) and a "Local Image" (managed by the store manager) running on the same Channel.

Quick Summary

  • Upload files to Assets.

  • Group assets into Playlists.

  • Assign playlists to Channels.

  • Publish Channels to Screens
